From November 8 to 12, 2023, 6 middle school students from years 8/9 and 9 upper school students from the IB13 Visual Arts course traveled to Morawa Castle in Lower Silesia, Poland, to work intensively on theater and art projects. The students met Polish peers from nearby Swidnica, with whom they worked as a team on their productions. This year, the theme of all the workshops was "A Different World". Under the direction of Bernard Szulc, who also organized the entire project trip to Poland, the middle school students from the NMS and the Polish partner school created small theater scenes that were performed at the end.

The groups took turns taking part in practical art workshops led by Laura Martens, who worked on photomontage, collage, mixed media, painting and felting. Meanwhile, the secondary school students from the IB course and from the Polish secondary school, 17 students in total, created very individual, impressive works of art, which were generated almost entirely from found objects from the castle cellar and garden shed. The artistic expansion of the historical finds breathed a second life into the objects and opened up completely new perspectives on materials and interpretations. An excursion to Swidnica opened up encounters with the partner school, the well-known artist Robert Kukla, insights into the town's history, a visit to the impressive Friedenskirche church and, of course, shopping opportunities. At the end, all participating pupils showed their work and received a lot of positive encouragement and applause https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agQJCXIpc8Q

Special thanks go to Bernard Szulc for the smooth organization of the trip and the administration of Morawa Castle, who fulfilled our every wish, from setting up the studio rooms to the exhibition.
