Parents' Evening (Klassenelternversammlung):The parents'
evening is the forum in which the parents of a class and the class
teachers meet to discuss issues relevant to the class. At the first
parents' evening of the school year, two parent representatives are
elected. They are responsible for organizing the parents evenings and
represent the parents of the class in the Parents' Council.
The parent representatives have the following duties:
- to call a class parent meeting at least three times a year and suggest an agenda in cooperation with the teacher
- to call a class parent meeting when either one fifth of the parents, the teacher or the school principal so desires
- to cooperate with the class teacher and represent the interests of the parents and the pupils
- to attend the Parents' Council meetings
- to
inform the parents of the class about issues and themes of the school
management, discussions, and decisions taken at the Parents' Council
- to
compile an e-mail list of the parents of the class, and to forward
information being sent to the parent representatives from the different
school bodies
- to represent common issues of the class parents
in the Parents' Council and towards teachers, educators, and the school
management
- to help find parents who would engage themselves
in the various committees of the school (e.g. fundraising, school festivities, traffic
patrol, etc.)
- to alternate the chairing of the class meeting between German and international parent representatives
- to invite class student representatives to class meetings (relevant as of fifth grade).
There are monthly or six-weekly Parents' Council meetings with parent
representatives, staff representatives and members of the school
management where all parties involved share information and discuss
concerns. The Parents' Council deals with all problems brought to its
attention by the parent representatives. The Parents' Council Board (GEV-Vorstand),
elected at the first meeting in the school year, sends out an
invitation and a proposed agenda by e-mail one week before meetings.
Parents' Council (GEV): The Parents' Council (or GEV: GesamtElternVertretung
in German) represents the parents of our school community and is the main forum for communication between parents and the school management. It is made
up of the parent representatives from each class. The Parents' Council also sends representatives to the school
committees, most importantly the school conference. These
representatives report back to the Parents' Council. This constitutes
participation in the school's decision-making process.
The Parents' Council Board (GEV-Vorstand)
A board is elected from the members of the Parents' Council. The Parents' Council Board can be reached at
