UNESCO AG
Madiba GroupThe newly reconstituted Arbeitskreis Africa Committee changes its name to reflect its new mission. Madiba is a term of endearment and respect for Nelson Mandela, the school’s namesake, and also the name of the clan of which Mr Mandela is a member. In South African traditional culture, a clan name is much more important than a surname as it refers to the honorary title adopted by the elders of Mandela’s clan.. It is considered very polite to use someone’s clan name. The Madiba Group of the NMS has become a clan of sorts with two major purposes in mind: to bring forth the ideas and values of Nelson Mandela to the wider school community and to forge stronger ties with South African schools to foster friendship and understanding. If you are a student, teacher or parent and want to participate working hands on towards these two goals, please contact us at: IT Development GroupTeachers, administrators and parents jointly participate on this committee to research, write, implement and evaluate a working technology plan for the school. School Development GroupAll students, parents and teachers are welcome to meet once a month on a Wednesday to 1) discuss issues or new concepts concerning our school community and 2) to introduce these issues and concepts to the various school committees for voting. The UNESCO AG of the school, whose members come from all parts of our school community (students, teachers and parents), collects and documents all the activities of our school. It advises on the implementation of individual projects and the development of the foreign relations of our school as a whole, especially with regard to aspects of feasibility, sustainability and the avoidance of parallel projects. Participation in the network of UNESCO Associated Schools will be coordinated by this group. Also, the UNESCO AG develops and provides support on their own projects, in particular the development of our relations with South Africa.
